Skilled Trade Pros Can Cover More Ground, Win More Jobs Without Sacrificing Human Connection

Skilled trade professionals are well aware of the imperative to innovate and incorporate new technology into their businesses.  According to the 2024 Harris Williams Home Service Survey, 62% of consumers say it’s extremely or very important that service providers use the latest tech for booking, billing and project management. But with tech buzzwords like AI and augmented reality saturating industry (and public) discourse, it can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.  How can new technology actually help trade professionals do their jobs more efficiently?  In response to the demands from the market, many skilled trade pros are turning to video technology in order to win more jobs, document projects and keep customers happy.

It is essential that trade pros reach customers as soon as the customer is ready.  In the on-demand climate of 2025, HubSpot estimates that 66% of customers expect immediate help when they reach out to service providers. Nowhere is this need for responsiveness more apparent than home services. Speed is key; whether it’s reaching them during their most vulnerable moments, such as experiencing water damage – or simply getting to a warm lead before the competition. And while AI-assisted chatbots may seem like an easy way to address these needs, the same HubSpot survey shows that consumers overwhelmingly prefer dealing with a real human being.

By leveraging video technology, home service professionals can instantly connect with clients, without sacrificing the human connection. The immediate visual communication with clients allows customer service reps to better handle call intake and specialists to assess situations accurately and empathetically, leading to more timely responses.

At times, prospective customers may be unavailable (or unwilling) to connect via video. However, some skilled trade pros are utilizing technologies that allow customers to submit videos and photos on their own time- with no interaction with their team necessary. Some forward-thinking pros are even using branded QR codes that are placed on-site, such as on water heaters or electrical panels. The QR codes are scanned by customers to initiate live video calls or upload recorded videos. Skilled trade pros are using the QR codes left behind on equipment to get repeat business or provide instant support when needed.  This approach facilitates swift action, fosters ongoing client relationships and differentiates businesses from competitors in their markets with a direct and efficient communication channel.

Beyond initial call intake and customer interactions, video technology can also be used to improve operational efficiency and collaboration in every stage of a job.

  • Documentation of a job: Capture before-and-after videos or photos of a job to reference with your team or client.
  • Employee training: Utilize video recordings from successful jobs or customer interactions to train new staff effectively.
  • Sales reviews: View recorded interactions with clients to improve coaching ability and team accountability.
  • Reduce callbacks: Send follow-up videos to clients that explain fixes or equipment settings to minimize repeat visits and provide instant customer support.
  • Cross-team collaboration: Share videos and photos with team members across various locations, partners and clients to easily review the service provided.

By using video technology, these forward-thinking pros are innovating and booking more jobs without sacrificing the human connection that their customers need. Learn more about how LiveSwitch provides solutions on their website.
