4 Common ServiceTitan Support Issues

When it comes to technology, who doesn’t love a product that will make your life easier? Sometimes, though, achieving the end goal may not be as easy as one might think. Software is rarely plug-and-play, much less one-size-fits-all. Data input is critical to successful implementation, utilization, and optimization.

Implementation issues and feature misconfigurations

It’s important to take the time to really understand your data, and how it maps into ServiceTitan. ServiceTitan certified consultant Rosario Garcia said contractors shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions about terminology, or how things translate in the system.

“Clean up your legacy data before importing–review the data review sheet thoroughly, and work closely with the data team to fix any issues before going live,” she said. 

Oftentimes, a contractor’s ServiceTitan journey may not immediately begin with Inventory, but instead with Purchasing.

“This is not unreasonable,” said consultant team lead Kris Smith. “It’s a LOT to learn, and you MUST master Purchasing before moving to Inventory.” 

While knowledgeable, the ServiceTitan sales team may not be aware of particular workflows that exist within your company that are unique to you, such as internal financing, commercial maintenance plans, multi-day jobs, year-long contract work, etc. 

Features exist to help you manage these items, but they are non-standard, and proper setup goes beyond the ability to book a job, complete a job, and collect and export invoices and payments. ServiceTitan consultants help drive beyond that.

Disconnected workflows (like Pricebook, memberships, or reporting)

ServiceTitan is a powerful platform, but it only works well when all the pieces are connected. Based on your actual workflows, define clear roles, tasks, and responsibilities for each team member. If it’s “everyone’s job,” it becomes no one’s job. Building SOPs and a video training library helps keep everyone on the same page and aligned, but can take time. ServiceTitan consultants are a great resource for these tasks.

Staff training gaps and low user adoption

“Find anything related to your role, and soak up that knowledge,” she said. “By the time you get to the training classes section of implementation, you should be treating those sessions as Q&A only.” 

Those sessions cannot, and will not, replace completion of the academy. Smith said Powerhouse often encounters new contractor employees who have little knowledge of ServiceTitan operations, because they were allowed to bypass academy training.
