Timesheets and Work Orders in FieldEdge

In last week’s blog, we dissected the House Method and how it can help your company understand a Work Order’s structure in FieldEdge

This week, we’re going to take that structure a step further and dive into a crucially overlooked part of Work Orders: Timesheets.

What are Timesheets?

Timesheets inside of FieldEdge are what help your Technicians track their time while out in the field. They are used to log and track:

  • Traveling to Location
  • Anytime a Technician is working
  • Paused lunch hours.

Timesheets are especially important if your company decides to track your job’s profitability with Time Entries.

Typically, Technicians should be using the mobile application to log their time accordingly as the day progresses. However, we know that isn’t always the case.

Sometimes your Technicians may experience poor service, or worse:

Forget to clock in and out on a regular basis.

This is where the office steps in to become the heroes.

Timesheet Entries on a Work Order

There are currently two different ways to view your company’s Time Entries.

The first way is through Settings > People > Time Entries.

Here you can see your Time Entries on a weekly basis, and manually edit them if needed.

However, there is another way to check your Employees’ Time Entries before payroll on the Work Order.

Located next to the Purchases tab on a Work Order is the Timesheets section.

Here you can add, view or edit any preexisting Time Entries on the Work Order. You can also add a new entry for a Technician if needed.

To edit or adjust a preexisting Time Entry, simply select the Notepad icon next to the duration.

A popup will appear allowing you to adjust Activity Type (Traveling, Working or Paused), Class, Date, and the Start/End times:

We highly recommend checking your completed Work Orders at the end of the day for any errors, especially for a Work Orders Timesheet.

This way, when it comes time to do Payroll, your office will only need to briefly look over the Time Entries in Settings on a weekly basis. If your company’s Work Orders are kept up to date on your Technicians times at the Work Order level, this makes Payroll faster than before as it would now be a team effort to make sure the entries are correct.
